June’s Learner of the Month is Michael Haigh
This month we are pleased to present Michael Haigh from Crompton House Church of England School as our Learner of the Month.
Crompton House is a Church of England School, founded in 1926, is the lead school in a multi-academy trust and is based in Oldham, Manchester.
Jamie McFarlane, IT Manager at Crompton, nominated Michael stating: “Michael is a tireless worker who’s constant attention to detail and ‘never give up’ attitude makes him the perfect nominee. He’s always willing to take on any challenge and you know he will give you 100%. This is reflected in the impressive feedback he has received through our helpdesk system.”
Michael studied at St Damian’s Roman Catholic Science College in Ashton, and was embarking upon his first year of A-levels studying English, Sociology, Media and IT BTEC before he decided to leave college and begin his Level 3 IT Software, Web & Telecoms Professionals Apprenticeship.
Part of Michael’s inspiration behind his decision to choose IT as an industry was the fact that his Dad is an IT Manager so he knew a little about the industry. As the IT industry is expanding constantly and is increasingly used in all areas of life, it’s a brilliant industry to join. In his current role Michael is acting as first line support within the school’s IT Support department; his duties include anything from password resets within the Active Directory to the deployment and management of iPads.
Michael is now 7 months in to his apprenticeship and really enjoying it, he told us: “I would like to progress onto a Level 4 apprenticeship because I can develop more skills from both at Crompton House and build job opportunities for myself. I’m only 18 so I’m happy to stay in the education system for a while longer, whilst also staying working at Crompton House’.
Working at Crompton House suits Michael, as he likes the fact that working in a school environment keeps him busy despite the relaxed culture of the office, and enables him to work diversely, growing his skills when working with hardware and software. In the future, Michael wants to find work in 1st Line Support, or potentially 2nd Line Support.
Jamie, who is also Michael’s Manager added, “Michael is our second apprentice in as many years. I’m hoping that we continue Michael within the Estio programme and support him through his Level 4. Our experience with Estio has been great and I would always encourage any school to employ an apprentice with Estio where possible.”
Michael is progressing extremely well on his apprenticeship and has a bright future ahead of him. We’d like to offer our congratulations to him, and encourage him to keep up the good work!
