Apprentice Enjoys Working with Amazing Technology at Sky
21 year old Lewis Desforges had always had an interest in gadgets and computers whilst at school. After achieving 3 A Levels in Physics, Maths and Electronics, he decided to consider the Apprenticeship route where he could get more hands-on experience in technology.
Lewis applied for an advanced IT Apprenticeship at Sky in London where he was offered a position as an Integration and Test Apprentice. Over the last 24 months he has learnt valuable IT skills and gained experience from working at one of the world’s leading organisations. Lewis is also benefiting from earning a wage whilst working towards a recognised qualification. He has completed both level 3 and level 4 Advanced Apprenticeship City & Guilds Diploma for ICT Professionals in Systems and Principles.
Lewis said ‘I really enjoy being able to gain on the job training whilst gaining a formal qualification. I’ve met like-minded people when on training courses and have learnt a wide variety of skills to help me in the future.’
As part of his training programme, Lewis attends week long apprenticeship training with Estio Training. He also receives one to one support from his Apprenticeship Assessor from Estio as well as guidance and support from his colleagues at Sky.
He works as part of the team that tests Sky’s broadcasting projects. As an apprentice he has been able to work with each of the teams in the department and has built a really useful network of people. Lewis added ‘I’ve seen a huge amount of amazing technology here at Sky and I’m really enjoying the whole experience. I know I’ve got a great opportunity here and the possibilities of IT are endless, so in the future I could find myself working for any number of departments.’
When asked about his future, Lewis replied, ‘IT is a very changeable industry so it’s hard to know exactly where my future will take me, but I am enjoying the variety of projects that I can work on as part of the testing process. My aim is to continue working my way up the testing ladder and complete my apprenticeship here at Sky.’
Lewis has also been nominated ‘Apprentice of the Month’ by Estio Training. Senior Trainer at Estio, Fiona Baxter commented ‘Lewis always strives to achieve perfection and takes all feedback on board. He works consistently hard and has completed both a level 3 and level 4 IT apprenticeship in record time which is absolutely fantastic. Lewis has proved how much is to be gained from an IT apprenticeship – he is now a full time employee at Sky and has a very bright future ahead of him.’
