Northern Powerhouse fuels tech talent
If you missed the latest news this week, the NPIF (that’s Northern Powerhouse Investment fund) launched on Wednesday 22nd of February, bringing a further £400m funding for Northern SME’s.
UK Top 100 Law firm Ward Hadaway described Leeds as “ideally placed” to become a Fintech hotspot, while startups and multinationals alike have been “north-shoring” to Manchester’s MediaCityUK and Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle over the past two years, ready to spend this investment on product development, marketing, and crucially – bringing in the right people.
With an impressive target of 850,000 new jobs by 2050 in the Northern Powerhouse, it’s a fantastic time to be involved in the technology and digital industry in the North. After more government funding being directed towards IT apprenticeships as well as new reassurance in overall growth after June’s Brexit outcome, as an IT recruiter and someone building their career by being “switched on” to the evolving scene of UK Tech, I can’t wait to see what the next few years have in store. How recruiting will change, how we engage our candidates and clients, and how we we will have to evolve to keep delivering a great service for businesses and those hunting their next challenge.
Whether you are someone actively hunting a new position or a company that has found new challenges engaging potential candidates, how are you finding the current situation? What hopes do you have for the future?
