In 2010 Estio started their sponsorship of Calderdale Netball Club to help them achieve their vision of transforming the club, improving results on court, and recruiting a 3rd team.
6 months later and the results were starting to show with the recruitment of a well known, highly experienced coach, investment in coaching courses for club members, recruitment of new players, and the achievement of higher league positions.
They now have 3 teams competing in the West Yorkshire Netball League, with the first team competing in the highest division.
Calderdale NC has gone from strength to strength in the last 2 years and Estio are delighted to renew their support for 2012. We wish the girls every success for another great season!
After winning three of his first four starts over hurdles, Countrywide Flame ran another great race to finish a close second behind Hollow Tree in the Finale Juvenile Hurdle which was competed in very testing conditions at Chepstow over the Christmas period.
“I was very pleased with him. Considering the ground, I thought it was a very good run,” said North Yorkshire-based trainer John Quinn.
“We’ll leave him alone now for a while and the plan would be to give him one more run before Cheltenham.
“He could go to Cheltenham for the Triumph Hurdle trial at the end of the month (January 28), or there is a race at Leopardstown for him on February 12 (Spring Juvenile Hurdle).
“There are horses in the betting for the Triumph Hurdle a lot shorter than him who have just won one novice hurdle impressively.
“Our lad has won three, finished second in a Listed race and second in a Grade One. His form is very good.”
Countrywide Flame, pictured above winning at Redcar, is likely to be aimed at the Grade 1, Future Champions Finale Hurdle at Chepstow on December 27th 2011.
Writing in today’s Racing Post, trainer John Quinn said;
“Countrywide Flame may have slipped under the radar as regards to the Triumph Hurdle in March. His collateral form is very good and there isn't a juvenile I would be afraid to take on with him, albeit Tom George's Baby Mix looked very good at Cheltenham at the weekend. His next stop will be the Grade 1 Finale at Chepstow after Christmas. Watch this space.”
Countrywide Flame, pictured above in his latest winning performance at Sedgefield, is presently the best juvenile hurdler in the country! So say the British Horseracing Board who have given him an Official Rating (OR) of 137, the highest of any rated horse in training. The Racing Post agrees and their own ratings system (RPR) put him on 133, which tops their listings too!
Countrywide Flame made it three wins from four starts for Estio over hurdles yesterday at Sedgefield. Starting a short-priced favourite, he was never troubled throughout the race and won by a very comfortable 8 lengths.
John Quinn aiming for Grade 1 glory with Countrywide! In today’s Racing Post, trainer John Quinn, was quoted; "He´s going well and has taken really well to hurdling. He´s as tough as old boots. We´ve got a few options for him, here and in Ireland, but the probability is he´ll go for the Finale Hurdle at Chepstow."

Several members of the Estio team successfully completed this year’s Great North Run. Early morning breakfasts of pasta were the order of the day, followed by travel by minibus up to the North East with a great if exhausting day enjoyed by all. Many thanks to all those who sponsored the runners who raised over £2000 for various local and national charities.
Estio’s racehorse, Countrywide Flame, continued its progress recently with a fine win on the flat at Redcar, followed by a narrow defeat in the listed Wensleydale Hurdle at Wetherby. Conceding weight all round, there was no disgrace in finishing a half-length second and the horse remains one of the top rated juvenile hurdlers in the country, with a run at the Cheltenham Festival in March still firmly in his sights. For those interested in following The Flame’s progress, regular news updates will appear on these pages.
